Description

The throw pillows are cut & sewn in-house from the scraps of 19th century overshot coverlets. These blankets were handwoven by women throughout Appalachia, and like favorite dishes, the “recipes” for their patterns were passed down to their children and shared with neighbors.

Weaving a coverlet was often a months-long process. Some weavers would even use the wool from their own sheep—shearing, dying, and spinning—partaking in every step of the blanket’s creation. The final coverlet was reversible, with a lighter side to be used on beds in summer and the darker in winter. Typically comprised of wool with linen/cotton, their endurance is a real testament to the skill and tradition of these weavers.

The pillows feature a rear envelope closure sewn from hemp/cotton canvas. 20x20,” dry clean only.
